We referred to two main reasons: leading tones (ie, the harmonic minor vs the natural minor, with a sharp 5 (the seven not to the 6)) and the strength of a dominant chord leading to the minor (ie a 5 chord leads to a 1 chord).\n After that we looked at some finger picking, and I gave him some strategies for developing muscle memory by using the thumb for just the top three strings and bass, and the bottom three strings each getting their own finger for a pattern.\n We then sang through a bit of a Jack Johnson song.
